Company Info

Since 1976 Far Horizons has escorted more than 180 tours to over 170 countries on all seven continents.

Our established clientele of devoted followers appreciate our uncompromising policy of providing high quality accommodation and services, with meticulous attention to detail in some of the world's most exotic and stimulating regions.

Specialising in ‘journeying through, rather than flying over’ destinations that are off the beaten track and often unreachable to individual travellers, our tours are fully escorted and inclusive of all airfares, transportation, sightseeing, accommodation, meals, cultural events and gratuities.

Group capacity is limited to fifteen, which we feel is the ideal maximum number to achieve the degree of personal attention and 'camaraderie' which is the hallmark of Far Horizons.

As testament to the high standards, around 75% of the passengers on our tours are repeat customers.

This website is currently inactive and a new website is under development, to be launched soon.

Meanwhile please call or email for a copy of our Spring 2016 Newsletter featuring upcoming tours to the Mississippi, Indonesia, the Caucasus and Myanmar

Vale Martin Wright

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Martin Wright on 18th April, after a long illness.

Founder of Far Horizons in 1976, Martin was Australia’s longest-serving member of Skål International. Skål is a Norwegian word derived from the Old Norse skāl, (bowl, drinking vessel) meaning “cheers” or “drink up”. It is the name given to a professional organisation of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. Skål was founded in 1932 in Paris and is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Its members, the industry’s managers and executives, meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest.

In 1956 - his second year as a travel agent – Martin was inducted into the Skål club of Birmingham and when he moved to Australia and founded Far Horizons in 1976 he transferred his membership to the local Skål chapter in South Australia.

With failing health and no longer able to drive from his home in Truro in SA’s Barossa Valley to Adelaide to attend the monthly meetings, Martin decided to tender his resignation. Imagine his surprise in late January when he was visited at home by the President and committee members of the Adelaide club who presented him with a Life Membership badge.

After almost 60 years in the travel industry, with much of his time spent travelling to the worlds unique and unusual, less-visited and hard-to-reach destinations, Martin leaves a very long shadow and will be sorely missed by all who knew him personally and professionally.

Martin is survived by his wife Auriel and daughter Melanie & her family.
