Over the past 40 years Far Horizons tours have traveled to all seven continents and to most countries around the world.
Far Horizons was established in South Australia in 1976 by Martin and Auriel Wright who, noting a lack of truly unique overseas travel opportunities from Australia, drew on their extensive experience in the travel industry to create a niche market luxury tour business operating to exotic and unique locations rather than conventional holiday destinations.
In 1991 Sydney-based travel professional Nick Deacock was employed in a Sales & Marketing role to develop and expand brand awareness both within the travel industry and amongst the traveling public. Co-leading a 46-day Silk Road tour with Martin across China and Pakistan in 1991, Nick has been escorting Far Horizons tours regularly ever since.
In 2011, in failing health, Martin sold the business to Nick who relocated operations to Sydney and continues to offer Far Horizons’ trademark high quality tours to unique and unusual, hard to reach and less visited destinations worldwide.
In Safe Hands
We have a small team of dedicated escorts who have a strong sense of adventure and an ability to think on their feet when unforeseen circumstances occur. The escort stays with the group for the duration of the tour and takes care of all porterage, checking-in at hotels and airports, handling of border formalities, tipping of local staff, reconfirmation of flights and any other details that often stress an independent traveler.
In addition to an Australian tour escort, for each stage of the tour we employ experienced local bi-lingual guide/lecturers who have an intimate knowledge of their homeland and who will be able and eager to answer any questions you may have.
Traveling In Style
Far Horizons tour itineraries are meticulously planned to provide the right mix of travel, leisure and sightseeing with client comfort a foremost consideration. Early morning and overnight flights are avoided where possible. Overland journeys include sufficient comfort and photo stops. There will however always be times when unconventional forms of travel may be used, such as river boats, ferries or cruise boats; long distance and/or historic rail journeys; cycle rickshaws; sightseeing by horse, mule or bullock cart, elephant back or by camel – such diversity is what makes a Far Horizons tour truly memorable. As testament to the high standards, around 75% of the passengers on our tours are repeat customers.
High Quality Accommodation
Far Horizons uses the highest standard of accommodation available in the world’s most exotic and stimulating regions. Wherever possible hotels are chosen for their character and ambience in addition to their high standards of comfort and cuisine. In some places we visit, the best available is the only available, but even in the remotest regions we will use the ‘best available’ accommodation.
Fully Inclusive
All tours are as fully inclusive as possible, i.e. all transportation, accommodation, sightseeing, meals, cultural events and gratuities. You need budget only for personal spending money.
